"The Glance"

This is a portrait of a friend's granddaughter. This one was more interesting to do as I did the majority of diagonal line and various levels of pressure and tone control rather than the use of a stump to blend the values. This gave it more of a artsy feel rather than the photographic appearance.

"Pembroke Welsh Corgi"

I just heard on the news today the the famous Pembroke Welsh Corgi may be a breed of the past, within several dog generations due to loss of interest, etc. Here is a small miniature watercolor painting that I have done of one of these cute dogs. I know the value of working dogs as I had a very good stock dog on the family dairy farm. He was actually a Sheltie, he knew each of around 60 Jerseys by scent and name. If one was missing from the herd either he would search for it by the name I gave him or by scent that was missing from the herd. Eventually as he matured out he would bring the herd in by himself, both in the morning and the evening for milking. If nobody was there he became the corral gate to keep them inside until one of us would close the gate. All he required was a nice good dog pet and a scratch behind the ears, and a treat. He was truly my best friend. In honor of the working dog: watercolor miniature 2.5 x 3.5 inches -

"Hotrod"

"Hotrod"

I thought that I would step outside my comfort zone and do something more complex with lighting etc. The challenges of the lights; reflected, highlights and shadows were a welcome challenge that made me more intent on completing this. Being able to make the paint look reflective and mirror-like was something I will try again soon.

Jr Feiri is an avatar from the virtual world "Secondlife." The fun challenge is to bring such a character in to the real world and give it some level of looking naturally human. This is a pencil portrait.

"Day Dream of her Youth"

Another challenge. I wanted to capture a young lady deep in thought of how her life has arrived to the present by remembering some moment in the past. The child was enclosed within an oval to give a touch of past times. To draw the 2 phases with an ability to compare the two times and see the transitional development of the facial structure was enjoyable. The little girl held the rose so I used it as a point to capture and link the two together. I added a touch of red the each's lips. In that manner, rather than looking at just two portraits, one passes along the line back and forth wanting to compare them.

"Meet the New Family Member"

I did this watercolor for a friend who wished to give something special to his wife as a gift. It was a little more involved with the medium than I am used to but I am happy with the results. It captured their personalities.

"Brotherly and Sisterly Love"

2 very adorable children. I was thrilled to do this portrait of them for their mother.
